A Japanese conglomerate has to process invoices from 500 different vendors, each arriving in different formats and via different channels (via email attachments or via submission forms). Information from each invoice needs to be extracted, vendor information matched against an internal database, line-items extracted from each invoice, each line-item matched with products in an internal database, and then the information needs to be inserted into a corporate payment processing application. All of these steps are manual as the invoices all differ in format, they represent content in any of the three Japanese scripts (Kanji, Katakana, and Hiragana), and the vendor and product names in the invoices only approximately match the internal representation. This is a tedious process requiring a fulltime team of 10 employees.
Instead of employees processing invoices manually, AI agents should automatically handle the incoming invoices, following the same process.
